Welcome to DIS or Welcome Back! My name is Susan Eathorne and I am happy to serve you and your children as the school nurse. My focus this year will be on healthy living and hygiene. My hope is that we will partner together to keep our students healthy and ready to learn.
The first notice you probably received from me this year was regarding the NEW immunization requirements for the 2010-2011 school year. The school nurses will be working closely with the Public Health department to get students “up to date” as quickly and easily as possible. Please contact me if you have any questions.
In regards to healthy living, we recommend that children stay home if they have a fever of 100 degrees or higher. This is recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread of influenza as well as viruses and other diseases. Also, please keep children home if they have an uncontrolled cough, vomiting or diarrhea. Finally, let me know if your child has any special medical needs. I am available daily from 8am-4pm in the health office at DIS.
Welcome back to school! Just as school began, school nurses were informed of new requirements for immunizations. Surprise! The new requirements that affect DIS students are as follows:
All students that have not had chickenpox must have two doses of the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine in order to attend school. If a student has had chickenpox, parents, guardians, school nurses, or physicians may sign a Varicella Verification Statement, which will be kept in the student's permanent school record. This form may be picked up in my office or downloaded from the website: www.immunizewyoming.com.
Immunization for Varicella for students K-12 will take more than 30 days, so your child will not be excluded from school if you have a plan in place to vaccinate your child or have signed a "Varicella Verification Statement". Please call me at the school with your plan.
