Converse County School District 1 is pleased to offer the Club Invention program at Douglas Intermediate School to children grades K  through six.  This exciting two-day summer experience immerses children in imaginative play that reinforces and supplements school-year learning through inquiry-based activities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).  Each day, children rotate through three integrated modules that require creative thinking to solve real-world challenges.  Working together, children learn vital 21st century life skills such as problem solving and teamwork through hands-on learning… disguised as fun!

Welcome!

Welcome to Douglas Intermediate School!

The holiday season will soon be a memory for another year.  I hope you have some fond recollections of the season to carry with you all year.

I can’t believe we are almost through the first half of the school year.   Although parent teacher conferences are not scheduled until March, if you have questions or concerns about your child’s progress at the end of the first semester, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.  Our teachers are always available to answer your questions.

As Old Man Winter settles in, please remember to send your child to school dressed appropriately; hats, coats, gloves, boots, and snow pants.  We will keep the children in the building if the temperature and wind give us a wind chill of 10 degrees or below.  If the temperature is above 10 degrees, students will be outside for recess; they need it.

This Week in Too Good for Drugs

In the last few weeks of TGFD, students have learned about the dangers of tobacco use, the effects of alcoholism on families, and "gateway drugs".  Gateway drugs are tobacco, alcohol and marijuana.  They are called gateway drugs because they sometimes "open the gate" to other drug use.  We practiced using our peer pressure refusal strategies to refuse "gateway drugs".  In the final two weeks, we will talk about "marvelous failures" and how a positive attitude can make a difference in the outcome of our "failures".
